Why I do what I do.

I’m interested in how technology shapes systems — and how those systems, in turn, shape the world around us.

Working across research, design and development as a consultant, i’ve seen the best decisions are always made early, when problems are still ambigious, and options are open. The purpose of my work, is to help make those decisions more deliberate; grounded in evidence, informed by context and mindful of the long-term impact.

Im specifically drawn to work that sits at the intersection of analysis, and outcomes, where ideas are applied in practice, and need to survive real world constraints, rather than living only in theory.

How I go about things

I work by moving between research, design, and development rather than treating them as separate stages.

In practice, that usually involves:

  • framing problems clearly before proposing solutions
  • using analysis, prototypes, or proofs of concept to explore options early
  • designing systems with technical, organisational, and human constraints in mind
  • staying close to delivery to ensure intent and implementation remain aligned

I aim to keep engagements lightweight, collaborative, and focused on learning as much as possible, and as early as possible.

What I can do

Support across research, design, and development, from early exploration through to hands-on delivery.

Research

Problem definition, analysis, and insight generation. This can include exploratory research, data analysis, option evaluation, and early-stage investigation to reduce uncertainty before larger commitments are made.

  • Problem Framing & Discovery
  • Exploratory analysis & insight
  • Feasibility & options assessment
Design

System, service, and interaction design. This focuses on shaping how systems fit together and how people interact with them, informed by research and constrained by real-world delivery considerations.

  • System & service design
  • User experience & interaction design
  • Design through prototyping
Development

Hands-on building and delivery. This can range from proofs of concept and prototypes through to production systems, particularly where software, data, and AI intersect. Engagements vary from short exploratory work to longer-term delivery and support, depending on context and need.

  • Proof of concepts & prototypes
  • System build & delivery
  • Technical direction & delivery support
Ethical AI & Public Analysis

Commissioned, independent analysis exploring how AI shapes human behaviour, decision-making, and systems in practice. This work approaches AI through a philosophical and ethical lens, balancing opportunity with responsibility and long-term human impact.

  • Commissioned essays and analysis on AI and emerging technology
  • Ethical examination of AI use in specific contexts or sectors
  • Public-facing case studies exploring trade-offs and unintended consequences

About my Experience

I’ve worked across financial services, transport, gambling, and consulting, taking roles spanning analysis, engineering, and design.

My early work included consulting roles, in testing and analysis, across sectors such as telco, e-commerce, and student finance, followed by operational and compliance-focused roles in regulated financial environments. This grounded shaping how I think about risk, controls and decision-making in large organisations.

I later moved into delivery and change roles, within transport and financial services, working on initiative such as platform migrations, data and analytics programs, mobile applications, payments, and financial crime systems. More recently, i’ve worked on applied AI initiatives including exploratory work around agentic systems, before returning to transport-focused work.

Across these roles, i’ve constantly worked at the intersection of technology, data, reg, real-world delivery, and people. Where problems are complex, evolving and not neatly defined.
